Pay: Level 3 | £22,877 per year (pro rata) | £12.57 per hour

*8.30am to 3.30pm with a 30 min unpaid lunch break

Permanent role: Part-time, 26 hours per week (Tuesday to Friday)

Maternity cover: Fixed-term contract for 12 months, 6.5 hours per week (Mondays)

Job Purpose

The Support Worker provides personalised, day-to-day support for adults with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) attending Nansa’s Adults’ Centre. This role is essential in delivering safe, respectful, and empowering care, ensuring each individual can participate fully in centre activities and pursue their personal development goals. The postholder supports individuals with their personal care, wellbeing, mobility, and engagement, while maintaining high standards of safeguarding and dignity.

Key Responsibilities

Person-Centred Support

  • Provide individualised support that reflects each service user’s care plan, goals, and preferences.
  • Assist individuals in participating in centre-based sessions, community activities, and social interactions.
  • Act as a key worker for named service users, coordinating care and providing emotional support.

Personal and Intimate Care

  • Support with all aspects of personal care as required, including toileting, dressing, personal hygiene, and assistance with eating/drinking.
  • Ensure care is delivered respectfully, safely, and in a way that maintains dignity and choice.
  • Support mobility, use of aids or equipment, and any manual handling needs in line with training and risk assessments.

Health, Safety, and Safeguarding

  • Follow all safeguarding procedures and report any concerns promptly and accurately.
  • Support service users with health-related needs and monitor wellbeing during sessions.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and accessible environment and adhere to infection control and health and safety protocols.

Communication and Relationships

  • Build trusting, respectful relationships with service users, colleagues, and families.
  • Use a range of communication methods (verbal, visual, non-verbal) to support understanding and interaction.
  • Participate in team meetings, handovers, and reflective practice to improve quality of support.

Documentation and Record-Keeping

  • Accurately complete daily support records, including care notes, attendance, and incidents.
  • Contribute to reviews of care plans and support documents by providing insights and updates.
  • Ensure data is recorded confidentially and in line with organisational policies and GDPR.

About you…

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with adults with learning disabilities, autism, or other additional needs in a care or support setting.
  • Understanding of person-centred care and individual support planning.
  • Ability to provide respectful personal care and support for mobility needs.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and awareness of risk management.
  • Good communication skills and a caring, empathetic approach.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience in day services, community support, or adult social care environments.
  • Basic knowledge of manual handling, first aid, or medication support procedures.
  • Experience acting as a key worker or participating in care reviews.
